School Groups

For nearly three decades Kilcoo Camp has offered a very popular program for Junior/Senior public and high school students in outdoor education. Our program has helped thousands of young people to be more aware of the values of a good environment, to improve their skills in learning to live comfortably with others, to have a series of new experiences in their lives which add too their feeling of self-confidence, to try and get an appreciation of the land in which we live. Above all, our goal is to give the students a truly fun outdoor experience.

Approximately 30 years ago Chief established our first “off-season” school group for one week. It has now grown into a very full program during the months of May, June, September and October. A wide range of school groups enjoy Kilcoo’s program; one that we feel is simply the summertime overlapping into the spring and fall.

All of the Kilcoo staff who will be up during the spring or fall are university students who have been at camp for many years. They have all been trained in Standard first aid and possess a minimum of the RLSS Bronze Cross swim level. The students are fully supervised by their own teachers and parent volunteers, and the Kilcoo provide additional teaching skills, leadership, safety, and help run games, campfires, dances, and so on.

All students live in comfortable, well-maintained, electrically lit cabins in close proximity to the staff cabins, and to washrooms. There is room for eight students per cabin.

Kilcoo’s immaculately maintained facilities include: a huge main lodge/dining room, administration building, sauna, 6 bed infirmary with dispensary, separate crafts and ceramic shops, recreation building with stage, lighting and dressing room, and over 40 sleeping cabins. There are also tennis, basketball, and ball hockey courts, soccer field, baseball diamond, Frisbee Golf course, swim docks with diving tower, canoes, kayaks, and sailboats. We also have a world-renowned high ropes course and low ropes challenge course that has always been very popular with the school groups.

As I said, the tradition of excellence and high standards that we follow during the summer are continued during the spring and fall Outdoor Education programs. Most of our groups come back year after year, and the Kilcoo experience is a real part of their school community as a whole. The goal of the staff is to guarantee that all students have a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience at Kilcoo. One they will never forget. Please call if you need any more information.
